Founded in 1846 by the Devaux brothers, Jules and Auguste, the company was run for several decades by Madame Veuve A. Devaux, one of the select band of widows seeming to hold the key to Champagne during the nineteenth century. Augusta Devaux injected so much vitality into the company that her heirs inscribed her name on the facade of the house to perpetuate her memory. It was in 1986 that the fifth generation of her descendants decided to entrust the future of this prestigious brand to one of the largest groups of Champagne growers in the magnificent leafy surrounds of Domaine de Villeneuve at Bar sur Seine.

Located in the Côte des Bar, Côte des Blancs and Vitry, the vineyards are spread over 1,500 hectares (3,750 acres) with more than 800 associated wine farmers all contributing top-quality (much of it Premier Cru) grapes to the production of Champagne Devaux. Wines from the ‘D’ range are vineyard-selected from the best sites and blended with barrel-aged reserve wines from only the finest vintages.

Devaux wines are highly regarded by international press including Decanter magazine, which has awarded the wines with the following accolades in the 2005 World Wine Awards issue (October 2005), as well as previously naming Devaux “one of the top ten fastest improving Champagne houses.”
