Castell del Remei dates its origin back to 1780, the first year for which there is documentary evidence of vines being planted at the estate. Founded by 4 grape grower families from Bordeaux, Castell del Remei used French vinification methods and aging in American oak. They were the first Catalan winery to put aged wine on the market under their own brand name and the first in Spain to use French grape varietals.
