Perched in the hills overlooking the River Douro in Pinhão, the Casa de Casal de Loivos has been home to the Sampaio family for over three centuries. Founded by Manuel Sampaio Piementel in 1998, the 1.6 hectare vineyard with its 50 year-old vines produces intense, concentrated wines of great complexity.

Project from Cristiano Van Zeller in the Douro, Portuguese area.
Cristiano was the former enologist and owner of the famous Quinta Do Noval Estate, extremely well known for the production of ports and its famous Nacional.
Started this project in 1996, producing great wines and ports in small quantities.

DOURO RED
A very small product of only 21,000 bottles from a fabulous vintage.
Aged in 100% French oak, 70% new and 30% first use for period of 21 months.
Consisting primarily of Rufete, Turiga Nacional,Tinta Amarilla, and others.

CASA DE CASALS DE LOIVOS
From a single vineyards, with an average of 60 years old, with very low yields of 2.5K per hectare.
Aged in 100% French oak; 80% new and 20% first use for a period of 21 months.
Varietals consisting primarily of Turiga Franca, Tinta Rouriz, Tinta Amarilla, others.
Total production of 2,400 bottles.

Consisting of small plots from their own vineyards, all foot trodden in these small lagares crushed by foot before fermentation.
Incredibly deep in color
Tremendous concentration of dark fruit aromas.
Elegant, but also powerful, great balance, and finesse.
